Estrogen or Progesterone?

Actually, estrogen and progesterone are vital to the health of every woman. These two hormones exist in a delicate balance, and when that delicate balance is thrown off, various health complications can ensue.

From puberty through the child bearing years, there is a delicate play between estrogen and progesterone. Progesterone is on the other side of the teeter-tauter from estrogen.

The amount of these hormones produced by the body can vary from month to month and year to year depending on many factors including stress, nutrition and exercise.

Side Note: A big factor regarding estrogen and what could be called estrogen dominance, is the influx of xenoestrogens into our environment. These are chemically manufactured items that can mimic estrogen. In large measure they have invaded our food supply. Things like pesticides and animal growth hormones used on the farm are good examples. Ever wonder why girls are developing physically and sexually at younger and younger ages? That's xenoestrogens at  work - a side result of "better living through chemistry."

As a woman goes through her child bearing years in life, if estrogen becomes dominant over progesterone, havoc can ensue.  This may be reflected as various problems including:

  • Irregular menstrual flow; cramping
  • Bloating; depression; irritability
  • Migraine headaches; insomnia; epilepsy
  • Miscarriages; infertility; incontinence; endometriosis
  • Hot flashes; night sweats; vaginal dryness
  • Hypoglycemia; chronic fatigue syndrome; yeast infections
  • Heart palpitations and other cardiovascular disorders
  • Early bone loss pre-menopause, osteoporosis beyond

Many women don't experience these things until they get closer to menopause or cross that threshold. Once there, the amount of estrogen production drops significantly and progesterone production virtually stops. This shift in the balance between these two hormones leads to the unpleasant menopausal symptoms many women experience, like many of the items listed above.

Natural progesterone is very effective at treating all of the problems listed here - including OSTEOPOROSIS. That's right, it has been proven that natural progesterone intake reverses osteoporosis by increasing bone mass. Let me say that again…

This information should be first hand knowledge for every medical doctor. But it is not. Part of the problem is the very big influence that pharmaceutical companies have in medicine. There simply is no profit in prescribing natural substances.

I did a search on the web today for information on osteoporosis while writing this, and of the 20 or so big professional sites I visited, not a single one mentioned the fact or the clinical results that show
natural progesterone reverses osteoporosis by increasing bone mass. Every site was based on unnatural, drug based pharmaceutical intervention.

What does this all mean? When you go to your doctor, the odds are very high that if you are a woman age 50 or older, the idea of hormone replacement therapy may be introduced. Estrogen may be one of the class of hormones suggested, with Premarin often at the top of the list. Natural clinical research has shown that it is not always estrogen that needs to be added to solve the problems women experience, but often times it is a need for progesterone. I am going to make a suggestion. As a smart consumer, you will want to do some research before you embark on any hormone replacement protocol.  Based on what you discover, you may want to share the information with your doctor. Doctors are very busy and they don't always have time to keep up on all of the progress that is being made in the area of natural health. If it is truly ascertained that you need estrogen replacement and not just progesterone, than you should know that

Yes, NATURAL estrogen is available. If you are led to believe that Premarin is natural, let me remind you that yes, Premarin is natural, it comes from a horse, but horse estrogen is UNNATURAL to humans. With a little research doctors can prescribe the right natural estrogen if that is indicated for your situation. They will balance that with natural progesterone, NOT the artificial progestins.

Do you need estrogen?

That's between you and your doctor and I can't answer that but the odds are, you are probably much more in need of natural progesterone for your health than you are in need of estrogen. This is especially true for increasing your bone mass and fighting osteoporosis.

So is it Estrogen or Progesterone?

I have purposely left this section short and void of much discussion about the nuances of hormone replacement.  This is for your research. There are very good sources where you can turn to get excellent and complete information.

The key you are looking for is NATURAL PROGESTERONE.
